Mathpath 2006 held at the University of California
Santa Cruz, CA
July 2 - July 30

Dr. Thomas and MathPath 2006 Staff,

Thank you for selecting me to be a volunteer math coach at MathPath 2006. It was a great mathematical and social experience. It was like going to professional development workshops that I loved for an entire month. The professors and everyone were very friendly and accommodating. I consider the entire staff new friends and I really formed a close relationship with Marilyn Howard, the other volunteer math coach. I know I will be a better math teacher and coach for my talented math students due to my experience at MathPath.

Sincerely,

Ms. Terry King

Dear Dr. Thomas and 2006 MathPath Staff,

My experience as a Math Coach at MathPath 2006 exceeded my wildest dreams. The faculty, counselors, and students were all very enthusiastic and friendly. I would compare a month at MathPath with the best professional development a teacher could ever hope for.

The math history lessons on Ramanujan, Euclid, Euler, Fibonacci, and others were priceless, and made me want to include more history in my own teaching. For a middle-school math teacher to have the opportunity to hear the MathPath faculty and distinguished mathematicians present interesting lectures, and then to have a friendly discussion over dinner with these same professors was a chance of a lifetime.

As a teacher and MATHCOUNTS coach, I learned many new ways of presenting problems to my students. Because so many areas of math were touched upon during our month at MathPath, I now have a much broader base from which to teach. My role as a MATHCOUNTS coach will be greatly enhanced. I also have many new math friends from all across the country and around the world, and a special bond with the other Math Coach, Terry King from Florida.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this outstanding math program.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Howard - Math Coach, MathPath 2006
