Advanced Summer Camp for students age 11-14
who show high promise and love mathematics

Attendance Options

MathPath is a 4-week camp, but for the last 2 years we have admitted a few campers for the first 2 weeks only (and no other 2-week period).

However, The faculty of MathPath feel very strongly that one gets much more than double out of staying 4 weeks. It takes a while to get into the swing of things, and in some sense the best courses are in the last 2 weeks, once students have more background.

Also most campers have felt that 4 weeks is not long enough! We asked the 2-week students in 2009, at the end of their stay, whether they were happy with their decision. The majority wished they had stayed longer. For their comments pro and con, click here. The 2-weekers in 2010 made the same sort of comments.

Therefore, we do not expect to admit any 2-week applicants this year. All such applications will be deferred until the end of the application season, when we may decide to admit a few. If we do admit any, preference will be given to very young students (age 11) who have not been away to sleepover camp before and who are not sure they are ready to spend many hours on math every day. (There are lots of other activities at MathPath – sports, games, free time – but the only academic activity is mathematics.)

However, even these young students have generally adjusted to camp very easily, when they have discovered how much they are like the other mathy kids and how much they like the routine we have set up for them. See the comments by 2010 parents about the safety and well being of their children.

Information about the fees and payment plans for the 2-week option (if permitted) appear on the fee pages of this website. Other information of interest to 2-week campers appears in appropriate places on this website, or in the Precamp Briefing that all students coming to camp receive.
